The reason why I chose Michael Phelps as my topic for my satire was that he is an amazing swimmer who also has a lot of controversy around him about the way he swims. People who don't understand what a satire is will be the ones who get offended the most or if they are a fan of Phelps. The point I am trying to prove about Phelps is that he is a great swimmer because he practices to get better but everyone thinks when you are good at something you have to take drugs and that is not the case. He was caught smoking pot and had to be tested in order to compete. In my satire I used onomatopoeia and hyperbole. My overall satire was really a hyperbole and the onomatopoeia that was used was the word splash. The reason why this is actually a serious issues is really about how much people believe everything they read or what the media portrays. There is a difference between telling the truth and over exaggerating it.
Michael Phelps returns to his tank at the Georgia AquariumEveryone knows that Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps is part dolphin. Who else do you know that can swim this fast? Phelps is the most decorated man of all time with a total of twenty-two medals! He won EIGHT not one but EIGHT gold medals in a single Olympic game. He seriously has to be part fish ! He holds his breathe longer than the average human. I mean come on is this even allowed in competitions!? Before the race starts Phelps does this weird chicken flap but as soon as he dives in the pool SPLASH instant win, especially when Phelps does his flip turns he is swimming with both of his legs together like a merman. He has been caught smoking illegal substances! Maybe this is one reason he swims faster he might even take steroids just to give him an extra boost!
Jackson State UniversityEveryone has always dreamed of the college they want to attend. Some people know what college they want to attend by the age of five. I have always wanted to go to Jackson State University in Mississippi, since my whole family went there. I've been going to the football games since I was three months old,so it was really the only college I knew about. As I grew older I found out about Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) in North Carolina and fell in love with it. The cheerleaders at the school are amazing which really caught my eye. I started looking up the ACT/SAT scores to see what I had to make to get in both colleges. I have always been told that HBCU's were the best choice to make. I was also told that I would have fun and my memories will be amazing. The college you choose shouldn't be based off of how many parties they have during the week but based off of if they have what you want to major in and if it is a good choice to go to that school.
Student OpinionHow much of a DAREDEVIL are you? Classmate s' BlogsAreli Ade Tasfia I commented on three of my classmates post about how I liked how they wrote an article or how they need to add more details. Most websites delete comments because of the vulgarity used or the personal abuse. Many websites require that you use your real name and e-mail address to leave a comment on a topic. I don't know why they ask for your email address in the first place. Most of the time spam messages can come in just from putting your email on the web, so why would I want to put it in a box just so I can comment on an article. I believe that they should delete comments that are offensive, I also believe that comments that don't make sense and get off topic should also be deleted. However, I do feel as though commenting on articles do start up a conversation, sometimes good sometimes bad. Conversations can go in both ways either they can stay on topic and talk about the same thing or they pull other resources into the topic, which is a great thing. In the article it talks about same sex vs interracial marriages. The comments aren't as bad as I thought they would be. They were calm and simply stated what they thought about the situation. They also had questions on why the author said certain things and how does it tie into each other. One comment that caught my eye was Matt S. comment saying that there is a difference between "approve of" and "think it should be legal." I want everyone on my blog to state their opinion if they must, as long as it doesn't insult anyone. I want people to comment in a calmly manner and not trying to attack each other just to prove a point. I also thought that this topic was a very good one, because this has been a very hot topic for a couple of years. A lot of states have been passing the same sex law which makes everyone wonders if more states will pass this law.
When I googled myself there was only one thing that showed up. It was my Facebook page. I'm kind of disappointed that my social network was the only thing that popped up. Alexis Thompson is a really common name so I wouldn't expect it to be a lot about me. I googled my first and last name then my middle and last name since I go by both names. My Facebook is filled with family photos, competition photos and achievements I have made. So if someone were to look at my Facebook there wouldn't be anything bad about it. They would mostly say that I am a family person and that I love cheering. In the articles " College prospects are being watched on Facebook and Twitter." and " 37 percent of employers use Facebook to Pre-Screen Applicants." It talks about how recruiters, parents, employers, etc.. Use social networks to see about the person they are trying to get a better understanding of, or seeing how they act differently on social networks that they do in person. For hiring a person for a job they are trying to see reasons on why they should hire and or why they should not hire you. They can also tell on your page what you do like sports or going to parties. Teens are being watched but most of them are posting pictures of them smoking or drinking, which are causing most of the people who have scholarships to lose them. They should also beware of what they post. I think by people viewing their webpages it gives them a good sense of how a person behaves/acts outside of practice or class. It gives teens a wake up call about what not to post. In the article, " College prospects are being watched on Facebook and Twitter" Shaq Wiggins a football player said he would tweet song lyrics and the coaches would come up to him and say that they like the song.
